Welcome to Autism Kent

Welcome to Autism Kent. We are a small team of clinical psychologists and speech and language therapists, based in Whitstable, Kent. We specialise in neuroaffirmative diagnostic assessments and post-diagnosis support for young people and adults. Our young person and adult assessments are offered in-person or online.

Our service revolves around our core values of quality, compassion, and acceptance. We aim to ensure that these values underpin every aspect of the service you receive, from start to finish. When you come to Autism Kent our priority is for you to feel safe, heard and understood.

What does Autism Kent provide?

We realise that an assessment can be a daunting process, so please let us know if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to make the process more comfortable for you.

If you are wondering whether an autism or ADHD assessment is right for you or your young person, or if you do not require a formal diagnosis, we provide a neurodivergence consultation, whereby you will be sent a set of screening measures to complete and be asked to attend a consultation with one of our clinical psychologists. The neurodivergence consultation will consider traits related to autism, ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions, as well as symptoms such as anxiety and depression. The consultation will include recommendations, which may indicate the need for a full diagnostic assessment, or may conclude that this is not necessary. This option will help you weigh up the pros and cons of a full assessment.

For face-to-face appointments we are in Whitstable, Kent, which is within easy reach of Canterbury, Faversham, Herne Bay, Maidstone, Medway, Ashford, Sittingbourne, Thanet, Dover and Deal. We also offer online consultations. Please contact us for further information or to arrange an initial consultation on 01227 656953 or at info@autismkent.co.uk

How could a diagnosis help?

  • It may help you, your family, friends, partner, employer and colleagues to understand why you experience particular difficulties, so that you can support yourself and they can help to support you.
  • It may correct a previous misdiagnosis and mean that any mental health difficulties can be better addressed.
  • It may help you to get access to appropriate services and benefits.
  • You will be entitled to have reasonable adjustments made by your employer, college or university.
  • A diagnosis can help make sense of your life experiences, highlight your strengths, and improve self-worth.
  • It may help you to be able to identify with other neurodivergent people and connect with people with similar experiences.
